About Dodge City Sports Commission

Dodge City Sports Commission

History

The beginnings of the Dodge City Sports Commission start in 2014 when a group of people first met to discuss efforts to bring more events to the community.  That group of people consisted of representatives of primary facilities in Dodge that could host athletic events and tournaments and included City, School District, College and County, and United Wireless Arena personnel.  Realizing the entire community has to work together to attract and execute major events, the group formed the Sports Commission to provide a consistent presence that could reach out to event rights holders and leverage resources to insure events are successful.  To date the Commission has organized:
      • Seven KSHSAA State Basketball Championships,
      • Five Wild West Bowl 6 Man Championships,
      • Hosted the 2019 Shrine Bowl game.
      • 2019 NAIA Softball Opening Round
The group continues to bid on additional events including NJCAA and NAIA championships.

Mission

The Dodge City Sports Commission is an ad hoc committee of the Dodge City Convention and Visitor's Bureau. The objective of the DCSC shall be to identify and recruit potential athletic events to the community as a compliment to, not to compete with, or instead of, existing events and activities already in Dodge City.
